Big-name entertainers had all but disappeared from Fremont Street, abandoning Glitter Gulch when the cheesy outdoor Fremont Street Experience was erected in the 1990s. Thankfully, comedian David Brenner aims to correct that travesty with this two-month run at Downtown's fanciest digs, the Golden Nugget. Brenner, a Vegas regular since 1970, is making a comeback, and will stage his comedy routine to Downtowners brave enough to abandon their 5-cent fruit machines for an evening of sophisticated stand-up.

Morcheeba
UK trip hop combo Morcheeba hit Madrid with their peculiar, personal brand of music that combines elements as diverse as 1930s' blues and contemporary hip hop. This complex fusion of styles makes the band's sound difficult to classify but their 1995 début single 'Trigger Hippie' was a huge underground hit and the follow-up album 'Who can You Trust' was voted one of the best hundred dub albums. Since then there have been collaborations with artists as diverse as David Byrne, DJ Swamp, Spikey T and Burning Spear.

Il Dio Nascosto
60 canvasses make up this special Holy Year exhibition of religious art in 17th-century France. Although associated with the secular splendours of the Sun King, the art of the time was also characterised by pictorial attempts to represent the Divine. 'Il Dio Nascosto' (The Hidden God) boasts masterpieces by Georges de La Tour ('Mary Magdalene'), the Le Nain bothers ('The Adoration of the Shepherds') and Philippe de Champaigne ('The Last Supper').

Glen McClure
McClure's dreamy photos give off a kind of East Coast Ansel Adams vibe that has made his work popular among art and nature lovers. The handsome gallery space at Eklektikos should provide an ideal setting for McClure's pictures, many of which sparkle with a kind of freshness that is unusual in nature photography. His backers claim that spending enough time with his work can even produce a kind of metaphysical, meditative state. Find out for yourself this month at Eklektikos.

Boom
This new restaurant is known as much for its interior design as its food. Rather than an explosive device, the name 'Boom' recalls the post-war Italian economic miracle. Guests can appreciate a millennium take on 1960s design while sampling a tempting array of southern Italian cuisine. The fresh pasta with ceci e orata (chick peas and sea bream) is delicious, and, for once, vegetarians are spoilt for choice with Mezzogiorno goodies such as polpette di carote (small carrot fritters) and fagottini al limone (buffalo mozzarella wrapped in lemon leaves).

Azymuth
Azymuth will undoubtedly attract the attention of local club hipsters anxious to pay their respects to these Brazilian funk legends. Best-known for their 1970s chart hit, 'Jazz Carnaval', Azymuth have more recently attracted the attention of the remix community and splendid treatments of their tunes by Roc Hunter and 4 Hero appeared on the Far Out Recordings label. Live, the band's superb percussion and keyboard playing, with its characteristic Brazilian lightness-of-touch, will turn the Reigen into the nearest Vienna has seen to the Sambadromo.
